The Downtown Truro Partnership, a non-profit business organization, decided to utilize AI to create artwork for a tote bag sold at the Truro Buskerfest, a community festival. This move, while innovative, has left many, including Simms Breland, questioning the direction the partnership has taken.
Limited Resources vs. Local Support
Simms Breland, who owns Rolling Sea Tattooery in nearby Millbrook, understands the financial constraints smaller organizations face. However, she believes there are alternative ways to support local artists and the community's artistic scene. She suggests a contest for younger artists as a potential solution, where a portion of the proceeds from the merchandise sales could be allocated to support and encourage local talent.
"It's a sticky situation," she says, highlighting the challenges of balancing economic realities with the desire to support local artists. "From an artist's perspective, it's important to find ways to showcase and value their work, especially in a community that prides itself on its arts."
